Gav Barker Coaching - Policies

Gav Barker is a professional paddlesport coach and  a course provider for Paddles Up Training. GBC  is committed to ensuring all clients receive professional, learner focused support on and off the water.

The information on this policies page can be used as an aid to support clients before, during and after their time with GB. If you have any questions about any of the following information, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Cancellations & Postponements

Once your booking is accepted by GBC, via confirmation over e-mail or messaging app you will be sent a payment invoice. Please make payment as soon as possible. Cancellations;

  • 4+ weeks before the activity: No fee will be charged for cancellation or rescheduling.

  • 10 days - 4 weeks before the activity: A fee of 50% of the activity cost will be charged for cancellation. A 30% fee will be charged for rescheduling.

  • Less than 10 days before the activity: The whole cost for the activity will be charged for cancellation. A 50% fee will be charged for rescheduling.

  • Less than 48 hours before activity. No compensation can be claimed for cancellation, and a 75% fee will be charged for rescheduling.

  • By their nature some courses can be affected by adverse weather conditions and river levels. The weather is unfortunately outside of our control and GBC reserves the right to cancel any course booked that is deem unsafe to run. On the rare occasion GBC needs to cancel due to safety concerns, GBC will inform the candidate with as much notice as possible... the candidate will be offered a reschedule. GBC will not be liable for costs encored by the client in relation to the initial booking transaction, travel or accommodation expenses where adverse weather conditions forces a cancellation of the booking.

  • Some courses require minimum numbers in order to run. If minimum numbers are not reached, course candidates will be offered a reschedule or refund.

  • GBC shall not be liable for any delay or non-performance of its obligations in relation to an activity from any cause or causes beyond its reasonable control including, without limitation, an act of God, governmental act (including lockdown), pandemic, war, fire, flood or explosion (a “Force Majeure Event”). In such circumstances your right to participate the activity will be suspended until such time as the Force Majeure Event has ceased. If the Force Majeure Event results in a cancellation of your activity you will be offered a credit note with no expiry date. Refunds in this instance will not be granted.

  • If you wish to discuss these cancellation terms, please do so ahead of booking.​​​​

Safeguarding Policy​

Gav Barker Coaching is committed to ensuring that everyone can enjoy paddlesport in a safe environment where they are protected from any form of poor practice, abuse and neglect.  

GBC ensures it follows the following precautions;

  • Check the minimum age requirement for any qualification prior to course delivery (please see the qualification specification for details) 

  • Obtain parental permission for children under the age of 18 before they are permitted to undertake any training course.

  • Encourage learners to register when they are sure they will continue the qualification or award to assessment as National Association Registration process also obtains parental consent.

  • Ensure another responsible adult is present at all times throughout course delivery and learner assessment.

  • Do not undertake one-to-one training or assessing (i.e. where the Trainer/Assessor is left alone with a child or vulnerable adult)

  • Ensure that a Reasonable Adjustment Form has been submitted to Paddles Up Training for approval prior to course commencement for any learner who requires to be accompanied by a support worker or other supporting adult.  

GBC will review this statement on an ongoing basis as part of our continuous improvement activity and revise it as and when necessary in response to customer and learner feedback, changes in our policies and processes and actions from allegations.  

Assumption of Risk

This Assumption of Risk Policy outlines the principles and guidelines for acknowledging and managing risks associated with participation in certain activities or events. By participating in these activities, individuals voluntarily assume certain risks and responsibilities.

1. Acknowledgment of Risks:

  • Participants acknowledge that certain activities or events involve inherent risks, including but not limited to physical injury, property damage, and unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the course provider.

  • It is understood that despite precautions and safety measures, these risks cannot be entirely eliminated.

2. Informed Consent:

  • Participants provide informed consent to participate in activities and courses after being informed of the associated risks.

  • They acknowledge that they have been provided with relevant information regarding safety protocols, potential hazards, and the nature of the activity.

3. Personal Responsibility:

  • Participants assume personal responsibility for their safety and well-being during the course of the activity.

  • They agree to adhere to safety guidelines, follow instructions provided by course providers, and use appropriate safety equipment.

4. Release of Liability:

  • Participants agree to release organisers, instructors, and affiliated entities from any liability for personal injury, property damage, or other losses arising from participation in the activity, except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct.

5. Risk Mitigation:

  • Course providers will take reasonable measures to mitigate risks associated with the activity, including implementing safety protocols, providing appropriate training, and conducting risk assessments.

  • Participants are encouraged to report any safety concerns or incidents promptly to the course provider.

6. Insurance Coverage:

  • Participants are advised to ensure they have adequate personal insurance coverage to protect against potential risks and losses associated with participation in the activity.

7. Compliance with Regulations:

  • Participants agree to comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines governing the activity, including those related to health and safety standards.

8. Assumption of Risk Statement:

  • Course providers may require participants to sign an Assumption of Risk statement, acknowledging their understanding of the risks and responsibilities associated with participation in the activity.
